In The Spotlight – Sophie Brown
Our In the Spotlight series lets you get to know some of our team better. That might be their hobbies, favourite book or what they would take to a desert island with them. This time we’re talking to Sophie who is our Office Administrator:

Q: What is your role at SW and how did you get into a career in the said job role? |
A: My role is an Office Administrator. After finishing college with a extended diploma in Graphic Design, I jumped straight into the working world securing my first job with an office supplies company. This is where I developed my skill set as an Office Administrator. |
Q: If applicable what did you do before SW? |
A: Before working at Simpson Wood, I worked full time for an office supplies company based in Huddersfield where I was required to deliver and install office furniture, designing branded print for companies and administration work. Building 30 chairs for Simpson Wood is how I came across them for the first time. |
Q: What are we likely to find you doing on a day-to-day basis? |
A: I am responsible for submitting Confirmation Statements, managing our online systems, setting up new clients on our databases and designing company brochures, flyers and posters. I also work part time on Reception. |
Q: What kind of problem might you solve on a typical day / week? |
A: Most of the time it is ensuring clients are transferred through to the correct departments when they call, Managing the meeting rooms for when clients come in to see us and making sure we have enough supply of our stationery. |
Q: What’s the most rewarding part of your job? |
A: I really enjoy the social side of my job, I have always been a bit of a chatterbox! When clients come in to see us it’s really nice to have conversations with them whilst they are waiting to be seen. Also things as simple as making them a tea or coffee, I really enjoy being helpful. |
Q: Tell us what makes SW different… |
A: I work with some really great people at Simpson Wood, everyone is really welcoming and workplace has such a positive atmosphere! |
Q: What three words do you think (hope!) your colleagues would use to describe you? |
A: Helpful, Creative and Hard-working |
Q: What’s your favourite spot in Yorkshire and why? |
A: I really enjoy going to Filey and Scarborough for some proper Fish & Chips! |
Q: What’s your party trick? |
A: I have the amazing trick of making money disappear from my bank account!! |
Q: Favourite chocolate/sweet/food etc? |
A: I love Italian food!! I am hoping to visit Italy one day. |
Q: Favourite book/podcast/tv show/film? |
A: I love Marvel movies especially The Avengers movies, but I love a romcom!! the cheesier the better!! |
Q: Name something off your bucket list? |
A: I have always wanted to visit the 7 wonders of the world. |
Q: Favourite/dream holiday destination? |
A: I’d love to visit Bali, the Maldives and Australia although I’m petrified of spiders!! |
Q: Role model/inspiration? |
A: Can’t think of one! |
Q: If you were stuck on a desert island what 3 objects would you take? |
A: A Phone – to call someone to get me A Martini – whilst I wait A sunbed – to relax and catch a tan” |
Q: Tell us a surprising/fun fact about yourself |
A: During the week, 6 months of the year, I take part in crown green bowling. I have done this from a very young age and it’s a sport that many generations of my family play. I have played in the Huddersfield junior leagues from age 7 – 18 and since then moved into the senior ladies leagues. I was captain of the Yorkshire Junior County Team for 5 Years, we collaboratively won the annual County Championship 6 years in a row. I won the Huddersfield U18’s Handicap Merit at 15, the British Under 18 Ladies Merit at 17 and for the last two years I have topped the averages for the Ladies Yorkshire County Team. |
Q: If you could learn a new skill what would it be? |
A: I would love to learn how to Scuba dive!! |
Q: What is your favourite quote? |
A: Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get – Forrest Gump |
Q: What was your first record/concert/cd/music download? |
A: I really can’t remember. |
